In general, counseling is the process of meeting with a therapist to talk about presenting challenges that impact your beliefs, behaviors, and feelings. Talking about these challenges with a therapist helps to build insight into the problems experienced, increases self-awareness, and removes psychological barriers that prevent you from achieving your goals and having a sense of well-being. You will also work to build skills so that you can flourish autonomously beyond counseling.
Sessions are 50 minutes long and begin by meeting once a week at a minimum. As sessions progress, sessions frequency may be adjusted based on needs. A conversation will be had with the client and clinician to discuss options.
The length of time you are in counseling varies based on the nature of the issues presented and the specific goals of the counseling process. Some issues are more specific and can be resolved in a set amount of sessions, but others may be addressing more serious and deeper issues that require a longer term commitment to fully work through and resolve. Some people find that counseling is an ongoing process for personal growth and development that helps foster self-awareness and use therapy as a part of their life to achieve personal and professional goals.
The idea that the only people who need therapy are “crazy” or “damaged” is false. The majority of people who attend therapy are ordinary people dealing with everyday human problems, such as depression, anxiety, relationship issues, trauma, life transitions, self-esteem issues, life meaning, and work related stress.
Based on the services you are interested in, one of our practitioners will respond to your inquiry to set up a phone consultation to gather essential information on your request and provide a synopsis of what services will look like and if TCC can support your needs. If we do not have the capacity, we will refer you to one of our partners in the appropriate industry.
Currently, we provide most of our services through the use of virtual platforms to ensure equitable access as well as to continue the provision of services during the pandemic. As COVID-19 restrictions change, services can be offered in person, though based on the circumstances, clients will be financially held responsible for the logistics related to in-person services.
